Description
The Director of Discipleship at St. Margaret of Scotland will assist the pastor with administrative and pastoral duties, serve as a member of the parish staff, provide leadership and consultation for various groups, committees, and processes in the parish. This position will collaborate in or direct a variety of aspects of parish life such as the faith formation team, RCIA, sacramental preparation, adult faith development, evangelization, the stewardship council with volunteerism and the annual auction, senior adults, women’s spirituality, young adult ministry, sacramental records, substitute priests and social media. The position is full-time based upon 40 hours per week.
OBJECTIVES
1. Understand the mission of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church
2. Develop and implement a strategy with the Discipleship ministry of connecting members and friends with one another in Life Groups or other associations.
3. Develop and implement a strategy with Fellowship and Connections ministry to connect visitors, friends, regular attenders, and members with each other in the body of Christ.
4. Coordinates and initiates the missionary impulse of the parish, mainly through one-on-one and small group gatherings, that help connect the lost, the strayed or the hurting with the person of Jesus, and His Body, the Church and help equip laity to enact their baptismal call as disciple-makers.
RELATIONSHIP
1. Working with the Pastor to create a climate in which each member of the congregation is connected and engaged with the church.
2. The Director of Discipleship will work cooperatively with the Fellowship, Discipleship and Connections Ministries.
3. Create processes through which people’s gifts and passions are identified, developed, and connected with the broader ministries of the church.
4. Work with the Pastor to develop a strong membership recruitment team and a program for tracking visitors, introducing the church to visitors, and recruiting new members.
a. Oversee efforts to successfully connect new members into the life and ministry of the congregation.
5. Create opportunities, through events and small group gatherings, for individuals and families to connect, build relationships, and grow in faith.
6. Participate in the worship life of the congregation.
7. Maintain a caring, supportive attitude toward all who telephone or come into the church building.
TASKS
1. Personal contact with the adults of the church for the purpose of building relationships and encouraging them in their relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Coordination of Life Groups and other connections ministries including providing direction, training, and materials to Life Group leaders.
3. Leadership recruitment and development for Life Groups of college students and young adults.
4. Attending scheduled staff meetings as part of the staff team.
5. Participation in worship leadership at services as needed.
6. Interact effectively with all staff and volunteers to accomplish the church’s ministry.
7. Timely reports to the congregation of special activities.
8. Maintain confidentiality concerning financial contributions, pastoral care, counseling, and any information about members or friends of the church received directly or indirectly.
Requirements
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education – Bachelors in related field preferred but not required.
2. Work Experience: Minimum 2 years in ministry or related field.
3. Computer Skills - Proficient in PC computer systems and software: Windows, Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Publisher, and Outlook).
4. Fluency (both written and oral) in English.
5. Ability to lead and collaborate with staff and respect others.
6. Proven accuracy in written communications.
7. Practicing Catholic with ethical standards, personal integrity, and conduct consistent with the morals and teachings of the Catholic Church; includes faithful obedience to the Magisterium.
